We are seeking service user/ carer representation at a new forum called the Cardiff & Vale Traumatic Stress Steering group. This is a new group which will be made up of representatives from Cardiff & Vale primary and secondary mental health services, primary care and third sector services. The aim of the group will be to try to bring together different partners with the aim of improving the unmet needs of people with PTSD and complex PTSD in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The group will report to a Cardiff & Vale’s Psychological Therapies Management Committee and to “Traumatic Stress Wales” which is a Welsh Government established organisation which is also set up to improve the care of people with PTSD and complex PTSD across Wales. The Welsh Government has identified a number of priority groups for us to consider. These are:
- Refugees, asylum seekers and other people seeking sanctuary
- Perinatal trauma
- Survivors of sexual assault
- People in prison
- Transitions from CAMHS
We particularly welcome service user/ carer representation from anyone with current or past PTSD or complex PTSD from one of these groups. For information, the needs of veterans are being considered separately through the Veterans NHS Wales network, so this won’t be a focus of this group.
