Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs)

Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) work in partnership with Health and Social Services along with other voluntary sector providers.

CMHTs provide care for working-age adults (18-65 years) who have moderate to severe, unstable mental health problems.

Individuals with mild to moderate difficulties or those whose symptoms are stable are advised to see the Primary Mental Health Support Service – see the PMHSS website, Stepiau, or access via the GP.

In Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Community Mental Health Teams serve populations according to their GP practice.

Community Mental Health Teams aim to:

  • Promote health and recovery
  • Provide a local response to local people
  • Deliver individualised care based on a person's needs
  • Offer a variety of services including assessment, diagnosis and treatment
  • Utilise a range of therapies, techniques and social interventions

 

The Community Mental Health Teams are open from 9am - 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am - 4:30pm on Fridays. CMHTs can be contacted on the following numbers:

This team covers the areas of Cardiff Bay, Butetown, Grangetown, Riverside, Canton and Pontcanna, Cardiff. Wheelchair access is via the main entrance door. All consulting rooms are on the Ground Floor. The team does not have any formal arrangements for languages spoken other than English. However, interpreters can be accessed for most languages as required.

The West CMHT (The Pendine Centre) provides a service to individuals registered with GP practices in Ely, Caerau, Fairwater, Pentrebane, Danescourt, Radyr, Pentyrch, Creigiau (within the Cardiff boundary) and Llandaff. Interpreters can be accessed for most languages as required and there is wheelchair access.
